Residents of Matabeleland North Province have been urged to come together and form cooperatives to fully utilise the US$7,6 million OPEC Fund for projects aimed at alleviating poverty.

Each of the seven districts in the province will receive an allocation of US$285 000 to support commercial livestock rearing projects and sub-projects, savings and credit cooperative societies and for establishing and strengthening of an entrepreneurial training institute.

In an interview on the sidelines of the event, the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives Development, Cde Sithembiso Nyoni, indicated that the residents of Matabeleland North Province had to take the issue of funding seriously as it can unlock some of the challenges being faced.

The Minister of State for Matabeleland North Province, Ambassador Cain Mathema expressed delight at the funding venture.

The project is expected to fit into the government’s 10 Point Plan and ZIMASSET goals.
