Zimbabwe has joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Water Day.
This year’s commemorations come at a time when there is concern that the provision of fresh water is becoming a major challenge across the globe.
In a statement to mark the day, Environment, Water and Climate Minister Cde Oppah Muchinguri confirmed that the shortage of fresh water has become a major challenge not only in Zimbabwe, but globally.
Eighty percent of waste water generated by society globally flows back into the ecosystem without being treated or reused.
This has led to the pollution of fresh water, adversely affecting people’s access to the resource
This year the World Water Day is being commemorated under the theme: ‘Water And Wastewater’.
