Former footballers today visited the Glen Norah to pay a courtesy call on Zimbabwean legend George ‘The Mastermind’ Shaya at his residence.
A script about Zimbabwean football would be incomplete without talking about the great George ‘The Mastermind’ Shaya whose exploits earned him legendary status as a footballer.
Diagnosed with dimentia four years ago it has been a difficult time for Shaya whose ego received a boost when in a noble gesture a galaxy of former footballers paid him a visit at his Glen Norah home.
Peter Ndlovu, Benjani Mwaruwari, George Mbwando, Edward Sadomba, David Mandigora and many others accorded respect to a pacesetter in the local game.
The visit was not short of lighter moments with former players posing interesting questions that were intelligently answered.
After the touching gesture Shaya’s wife Agnes thanked the former players who handed over groceries to the family.
It has been an emotional past few days for the football fraternity after the passing on of Edzai Kasinauyo who was laid to rest yesterday at the Glen Forest.
The sudden passing of Kasinauyo seemed to have ignited a sense of lost time and consensus by former players that unity is key.
