Health advisor to the president and cabinet Dr Timothy Stamps has died.

He was 81.

Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa, told the Herald that Dr Stamps who is a former health minister died yesterday afternoon at the Borrowdale Trauma Centre.

Dr Parirenyatwa said Dr Stamps succumbed to a lung infection.

He said full details on funeral arrangements will be announced today.

Before independence, Dr Stamps worked for the then Salisbury Municipality Health Department where he rose to become chief medical officer for the city which is now Harare.

After independence he served in the Zimbabwean government as health minister from 1990 to 2002.
