It is with a sense of shock and sorrow that the nation has received the devastating news of the sudden passing on of Edzai Kasinauyo this afternoon.
Kasinauyo was a dedicated Warrior during his hey days and a sportsperson with a heart for assisting the sporting fraternity so that it may be counted among the best movers and shakers in this country.
In a statement to the ZBC News, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) acting director general, Joseph Muchechetere said the SRC shall remember Kasinauyo for his immense and invaluable contribution to the sports industry through his sport merchandise company thus contributing to the realisation of national sport and recreation ideals.
Kasinauyo through his e-Sports supported the Annual National Sport Awards (ANSA), the Team of the Year and Women and Sport Awards.
“For and behalf of the SRC and indeed my own behalf, I would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to the Kasinauyo family and the entire football community for the sad loss of gallant warrior who dedicated much of his time serving the nation at the highest level of football. Indeed, football and the sporting community is now poorer without Kasinauyo,” said Muchechetere.
“Our thoughts are with his family during this dark period, may they find comfort in the Lord Almighty. May his dear departed soul rest and anchor in eternal peace. Go well our gallant son we shall forever cherish your unflinching contributions to sport and precisely football!,” read part of the statement.
Alois Bunjira who played alongside the late Kasinauyo since they were in the Black Rhinos under 14 side said he has lost a great friend who did a lot for local soccer.
He added that Kasinauyo played for most of the national age groups up to the Warriors and was a disciplined player who gave it all for the nation.
The local football mother body, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) said is in deep mourning following the untimely death of the former ZIFA executive committee member, Kasinauyo.
ZIFA and COSAFA president, Dr Phillip Chiyangwa, expressed shock and sadness at the sudden demise of the former Warriors and Ajax Cape Town player and businessman, saying his administrative capabilities and general contribution to the game of football in Zimbabwe and South Africa, will be greatly missed.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association has learnt with shock and great sadness, the departure of its former executive committee member, Edzai Kasinauyo,” Dr Chiyangwa told the association’s official website www.zifa.org.zw.
“On behalf of the ZIFA executive committee, the assembly, the entire football family and on my own behalf, I would like to extend deepest condolences to the Kasinauyo family and the football fraternity during this painful period,”
“We mourn with you and our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult moment. May you all find comfort in the almighty God and may his dearest soul rest in eternal peace,” said Dr Chiyangwa.
In their condolence message, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) said it has learnt with great sadness of the untimely death of football legend Kasinauyo.
“On behalf of the PSL board of governors, clubs and staff, we would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to the Kasinauyo family , friends and the entire football fraternity,” said the association chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele.
Kasinauyo was a dedicated man and hard worker who achieved an incredible career as a footballer, football administrator as well as businessman.
He will be remembered as a legend who transformed the game of football in so many ways.
His service to football will forever be cherished.
