The Madrid International Tourism Fair has ended with the Zimbabwean delegation applauding the global tourism family for the commitment to support the country’s new political set up in unlocking the full potential of the tourism industry.

The global tourism industry gathering which was held on the backdrop of strong performance of the industry internationally as evidenced by the 7% surge in international arrivals to reach 1.3 billion, saw the UNWTO family expressing confidence in the growth prospects of the Zimbabwe tourism sector.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Cde Prisca Mupfumira described the event as a success given the commitment by the global tourism industry to support the country’s new political dispensation as well as the interest by investors to participate in Zimbabwe’s economic transformation drive.

UNWTO Director for Africa Programmes Elcia Grandcourt says Zimbabwe remains a key member of the global body and commended the country’s vision under the new dispensation.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Chief Executive Mr Karikoga Kaseke said going forward the country will ensure that it capitalises on the goodwill being shown to the country by enhancing the marketing drive and promotion of brand Zimbabwe.

According to the UNWTO, the current strong momentum is expected to continue in 2018 with international tourist arrivals worldwide projected to grow at a rate of 4%-5% in 2018.

Zimbabwe is looking forward to benefit from the project growth in arrivals and has committed itself to unlock the full potential of the sector under 100 day plan.
