The First Lady Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa has called on regulatory authorities to always monitor disaster risks so as to timeously inform potential victims of impending danger.
She made the remarks when she visited Battlefields mines where she shared her grief with the bereaved families and those whose relatives are still trapped underground.
The First Lady took a moment to be shown around the Silver Moon and Cricket Mines disaster scenes before she later met families of the deceased and the Battlefields community.
A moment of silence was observed in honour of the victims of the disaster before the First Lady delivered her words of condolences to the grieving families.
Amai Mnangagwa took occasion to pay tribute to organisations and individuals that prioritised life ahead of monetary benefits by responding to calls for assistance when disaster fell.
During her visit to Battlefields, the Firsts Lady distributed an assortment of groceries to families of each of the mine disaster victims.
Eight people were rescued in the mine mishap which also killed 24 others. The accident was declared a state of disaster.
