The First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa has commended Harare Mayor, Councilor Hebert Gomba for supporting government programmes aimed at restoring Harare to its Sunshine City status.
This came out at the annual Green Valentine dinner held at the Mayors’ mansion in Harare last night.
The dinner brought together corporates and stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to change the face of Harare City Council.
The First Lady said there is need for Zimbabweans to work together and help the local authority to realise its dream.
She commended Councilor Gomba for supporting government initiatives that include the national clean-up campaign, among others.
Amai Mnangagwa, who is the environment patron, reiterated on the need to turn litter into financial benefits through recycling.
Green Ambassador, Dereck Mpofu said Harare has the capacity to boast tourism if the city regains its Sunshine City status.
Councilor Kudzai Kadzombe said citizens should be educated on the need to beautify the city.
Different musical groups performed and the main song contained the ant-litter campaign message.
It was put across in different church traditions and culture.
A number of corporates participated and among them were the RBZ and Women’s Bank which has pledged to beautify Samora Machel Avenue near their bank.
