The First Lady Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa through her Angel of Hope Foundation donated medical consumables and foodstuffs as all hands get on deck in the fight against cholera.

Angel of Hope deputy board chair Mrs Chipo Mutasa said the First Lady was touched  by the plight of cholera patients and the ministry of health’s plea for assistance thus she quickly mobilised resources in the hope of assisting towards curbing the continued spread of the disease.

The chairperson on the inter-ministerial committee on disaster preparedness Cde July Moyo said local authorities must immediately implement long term measures to ensure there is no recurrence of such epidemics.

Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo applauded the First Lady for coming to their rescue and revealed that availability of clean water has helped to contain the disease.

The donated material include a truck load of mealie meal, sugar, cooking oil, juices, gloves, detergents and an assortment of medical consumables.

The cholera outbreak has resulted in the loss of 32 lives and over 6 000 suspected cases have been recorded.
