The FIBA Zone 6 club qualifiers got underway at the ZITF grounds in Bulawayo with Zimbabwean teams finding the going tough on the very first day.

The tournament which will see winners qualifying for the continental showcase had the region’s best sides squaring off in what is the first hosting by the City of Kings.

Day one presented itself as a tough one for Zimbabwean teams as Brave Hearts of Malawi beat Zimbabwe’s foxes 77 – 49 in the tournament’s first match.

Angola’s Interclube were then to make lightweight of Lakers by 96-40 baskets in a women’s encounter.

In an interview with this news crew, FIBA Commissioner, Shinga Magede revealed expectations of a polished hosting of the tournament.

Representatives of participating teams also spoke of their desire to live up to the requirements of qualification to the continental stage.

Action continues tomorrow (Monday) with hopes high of a better showing by the local sides.
