Zimbabwe basketball clubs participating at the ongoing FIBA Africa Zone VI club championships in Botswana have met with mixed fortunes in their opening encounters.

Harare City Hornets men’s team won two of their matches against Botswana sides Troopers and Dolphins.

Hornets beat Troopers 90-47 and recorded a 75-53 victory against Dolphins.

The City Hornets however, lost to the mighty Angolan side Sporting Libobo 98-54.

The Angolans are considered to be one of the best clubs on the continent.

Hornets are now scheduled to play Interclube of Angola and two Mozambican sides Ferroviaro de Maputo and Beira.

It has been a tough outing for the ladies sides Southern Mavericks and Lakers with Lakers losing to Inteclubbe 99-37 and 96-26 to Primero de Agosto.

Southern Mavericks also lost 94-35 to Ferroviaro de Maputo.

Participating countries are Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The basketball club championship runs until the 26th of October and are being played at the University of Gaborone in Botswana.
