Three women and a 24 year old male who are facing charges of aggravated indecent assault have been freed on US$300 bail.
The four were given bail on consent by the Attorney General.
The three women who have been labelled female rapists by the media but are facing charges of aggravated indecent assault are now out of custody after being granted bail.
The case was heard in chambers before Harare Magistrate, Mr. Kudakwashe Jarabini who gave stringent bail conditions that include reporting twice a week at Gweru Central Police Station, residing at their given address as well as surrendering their travelling documents.Â
The four, Rosemary Chakwizira and two sisters Sophie and Netsai Nhokwara together with their male accomplice, Thulani Ngwenya are facing 17 counts of aggravated indecent assault.
The three women together with their male accomplice were remanded in custody to the 28th of this month after the state represented by Mr. Michael Reza indicated that the four are facing a 3rd schedule offence, hence bail can only be entertained at the High Court.
However, in a twist of events, the four have been given bail after the AG consented to bail despite earlier indications that the bail application will be heard at the High Court.
The suspects were supposed to appear in court for their routine remand this Friday. The four will now be back in court on the 28th of next month.
The four suspects were arrested in Gweru last week when their vehicle was involved in an accident. 31 used condoms which had semen inside were discovered in the car.
The suspects were transferred to Harare where more complainants are alleged to have positively identified them.
According to state papers, the three women allegedly lured males to get into their vehicles before forcing them to be intimate.
It is further alleged that the suspects sprayed substances and forcibly gave them concoctions to drug their prey before getting intimate with them.
