Zvishavane-based FC Platinum routed visiting Swaziland side Green Mambas 4-0 in the return leg of the CAF Champions League Preliminary Round Leg at Mandava Stadium this Saturday.
FC Platinum turned on the power in the first half against Green Mambas with four goals that ensured them a date against Sudanese side El Merreikh in the next round of the CAF Champions league.
Goals from Joel Ngodzo in the 6th minute, Allan Gahadzikwa’s 36th minute strike and a brace by Charles Sibanda saw the Kugona Kunenge Kudada boys win the historic CAF Champions league tie at the newly refurbished Mandava Stadium.
Coach Rahman Gumbo was naturally ecstatic after the win revealing it was his strategy to kill off the game in the first half while for his opponent Lloyd Mutasa the defeat was a learning curve for the Swazi side.
The victory gave FC Platinum a resounding 8-2 aggregate win over Green Mambas.
A commendable crowd thronged Mandava to witness this historic African Champions League match.
This is the second time continental football has been played in Zvishavane after Shabanie played St Mitchels of Mauritius in 2002.
