FC Platinum head coach, Norman Mapeza has outlined the need to be focused after a 1-nil defeat to Harare City saw their lead at the summit of the standings being cut to just one point.
FC Platinum’s rivals, Ngezi Platinum gained ground on the log leaders with an emphatic 5-1 win over Shabanie Mine to take their tally to 52 points, just one less than FC Platinum.
With the PSL fast moving into a crucial phase of determining who will win the 2018 title, Mapeza remained calm after the platinum miners’ loss, outlining the need for his charges to be focused in their bid to retain the title.
“We are still on top with one point, so there is not much to be worried about. If the league ends like this, we would have won. We just need to remain focused on our remaining games which will determine whether we retain the league or not,” he said.
While Mapeza may not have particularly been happy with Wednesday’s result, his Harare City counterpart, Mark Harrison was elated.
“I am proud of how the boys applied themselves against a team that keeps the ball very well. We just need to keep getting results which is what is expected of us,” he said.
The 2018 league race has turned into more of a two horse race although Chicken Inn are not too far off the top two teams.
FC Platinum are vying for a second consecutive crown, while for Ngezi Platinum, league glory would be new territory if they manage to claim pole position when the season comes to an end.
