Agricultural activities for the 2017/2018 summer cropping season have kicked off in Nyamandlovu in Umguza district, following the recent rains that were experienced in most parts of Matabeleland North province.
The wet spell that prevailed in most parts of the province in the past few days have seen most communal farmers getting down to their fields to start ploughing for the current agricultural season.
The maize crop is already germinating in areas where communal farmers embarked on conservation farming.
Some of the farmers have also decided to hire tractors to allow their livestock to recover from the dry season.
The farmers, however, are still facing challenges with inadequate inputs which include maize seed and fertiliser.
