Mt Darwin tobacco farmers have hailed the decision by the government to decentralise tobacco auction floors as this will ease congestion at sales floors.

This was said at a farmers fun day held in Mutungagore.

The farmers, who gathered in Mutungagore to celebrate the province’s success in the 2016-17 tobacco farming season, said they support the decentralisation of auction floors. Mt Darwin West legislator, Cde Barnwell Seremwe welcomed the move, saying it will benefit his constituency.

Farmers said decentralisation of tobacco selling will ease congestion at the auction floors and reduce costs for growers.

Tobacco farming experts and agronomists present at the fun day took time to lecture farmers on how to acquire good tobacco grades to meet the demands of  the international market.

The decentralisation of auction floors is expected to save farmers time and money needed in travelling to Harare, and promote the development of the outlying auction floors.
