poultryy.jpgThe Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union (ZCFU) have called for more farmers to venture into the poultry industry to enable it to meet the demand for poultry products following a ban on imported chickens by the government earlier this year.

ZFCU  President, Mr Donald Khumalo said while the demand for eggs has remained constant,  the demand for chickens is now higher than the supply, a development which has seen chicken prices rising steadily.

He said the coming in of new players will boost the quantity and quality supplied and this will stabilise the prices locally.

Mr Khumalo said the industry is currently affected by high production costs due to high prices of inputs and non-availabilty of credit lines, adding that farmers can also produce soya beans to counter shortages currently being experienced in accessing stock feeds.
