maize.jpgFarmers have been encouraged to insure their crops against various risks especially losses due to natural causes  such as hailstorm as the country has been hard hit by the effects of climate change.

An insurance expert Mr. Maxmillan Uzande said farmers should safe guard themselves against eventualities, by insuring their crops and livestock as the effects of climate change are threatening the viability of the agriculture sector.

He said given the fact that farmers obtained loans from financial institutions, it is imperative that the risk of securing loans should be safeguarded through insurance schemes, where  in a case  of an eventuality the  insurance  company will be liable for the costs incurred.

Experts in the agriculture sector say hundreds of tobacco farmers are under the threat of natural causes like hailstorm and this may have a negative impact on the country’s agricultural input in following harvest time.
