The government has already started mobilising resources towards erecting a national monument at Chibondo mine in Mt Darwin where thousands of people massacred by the Smith regime where dumped in mine shafts during the liberation struggle.
This follows the take over by government of the exhumations and reburial exercise at Chibondo mine.
Mashonaland Central Provincial Administrator, Mr Josphat Jaji told ZBC News that the government hopes the relationship it has established with the Zimbabwe Fallen Heroes Trust will continue to ensure the success of the national project.
Mr Jaji revealed that Chibondo mine will be phased off and declared a national shrine adding that a site has already been identified where 849 remains that were exhumed will be reburied.
Zimbabwe Fallen Heroes Trust Chairman, Cde George Rutanhire welcomed the government’s takeover of the exhumation and reburial exercise.
