Former warriors superstars; Zenzo Moyo, Joel Lupahla and Ronald ‘Gidiza’ Sibanda are expected to grace the Chiredzi North Abrigo soccer tournament semi-finals to be held next weekend to identify soccer talent among the youths.
11 teams from Chiredzi North constituency participated in the preliminary games of the second edition of the Abrigo soccer tournament and three teams from ward 32, ward 20 and 16 qualified for the semi-finals where they will be joined by former Warriors players as the fourth team.
Players who participated in the preliminaries applauded the initiative saying such tournaments help expose untapped talent among marginalised communities.
Sponsor of the tournament, Alson Jasi partnered the area legislator, Cde Roy Bhila and said the programme it is part of their efforts to plough back to their community.
“As a young person who grow up in this area, I realised the need to come back and make sure that we create a platform for them to showcase their talent at the same time meeting rightful people who can help them achieve their dreams,” said Jasi.
“As you know a number of young people are not formally employed in rural communities so I partnered with Abrigo so that we can empower these rural youths through soccer and who knows? Some of them may end up getting a life from this initiative,” Cde Bhila said.
The semi- finals of the tournament bankrolled to a tune of $30 000 will be held on the 24th of November at Mkwasine grounds while the final will be held on the 25th of November at Uswaushava Secondary School.
