Former Minister of State for Midlands Province, Mr Jason Machaya, who was released on bail and rearrested on fresh charges of criminal abuse of office, has once again been remanded in custody till Monday the 8th of January.

Machaya faces another criminal abuse of office charge for allocating state land totalling 17 799 stands to land developers when he did not have the authority and lawful responsibility to do so.

The state contends that land allocation which Machaya did was the legal function of the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.

Machaya is again further alleged to have received 1 791 commonage stands of which he again inconsistent with his duties disposed 1 185 of the said stands.

While the defence argued that Machaya’s rights were violated on his second arrest and cited political interference, Magistrate, Ms Mildred Matuvi remanded the accused in custody till next Monday.
