Over $250 000 was lost at Mbare and Chitungwiza vegetable markets in disturbances witnessed last week.

This was revealed during an interactive meeting between the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprise Development and various representatives of small to medium enterprises (SME) on Tuesday.

Presentations by entrepreneurs indicated that it will be difficult for most to rebuild their operations if there is no intervention.

Responding to concerns of over-pricing of commodities SMEs use in their ventures, Minister Sithembiso Nyoni said SMEs is a constituency large enough to determine the implementation of corrective strategies that can defeat unethical business practices.

SMEs play a pivotal role in contributing to the growth of the nation’s GDP and reducing the unemployment rate.
