The roll out of urban tolling in Harare is set to gain greater traction with players involved in the implementation of the programme meeting the government on modalities this week.
The development comes as the state of the country’s roads, which were recently declared a state of disaster, continue to deteriorate with the motoring public complaining of increased costs of servicing their motor vehicles.
Experts argue that if properly managed, urban tolling is the solution to road rehabilitation and upgrading.
The Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere confirmed that they are scheduled to meet stakeholders on the implementation of the urban tolling programme.
He said the influx of second hand vehicles has seen the increase of vehicles on the country’s roads, traffic jams as well as road carnage.
