The dream is over for FC Platinum after the Zvishavane based side was booted out of the African Champions League by Angolan giants, Primeiro de Agosto.
Falling in the very first hurdle, the preliminary round, FC Platinum lost 2-1 at Mandava Stadium this afternoon to bow out 5-1 on aggregate after being thrashed 3-nil in the first leg in Luanda over a week ago.
The second leg was an exciting match that went for half time at nil all.
In the 55 minute, the visitors opened the score sheet after Lompala Bokamba’s strike was deflected into the net.
As the pace of the game got even faster, Rodwell Chinyengetere equalised for FC Platinum in the 66 minute through a beautiful strike.
In the 92nd minute, Primeiro netted the winner through yet another beautiful strike from Jacques Betumonde.
Addressing a press conference after the match in Zvishavane, FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza conceded defeat but said ‘it was a good game of football, adding that transitions within the game and the experience of playing together as a team for a long time are the major reasons why their opponents were better.
The visitors coach, Zoran Maki confessed that his team actually came only in search of a single goal and the second was a bonus.
