Calls have been made for the government to empower young women in order to develop them into socially conscious global leaders and help transform their communities.
Women constitute 52 percent of the country’s total population and if equipped with necessary skills, can contribute immensely to economic development.
Women who are involved in various business initiatives converged in Harare this Saturday for the Young Women in Business Seminar where various speakers spoke highly of the need to promote economic empowerment of women.
Ms Nyaradzo Tagarira, who was representing the guest of honour the Minister of State for Harare Province, Cde Miriam Chikukwa, assured the nation of government’s commitment towards women empowerment.
Other women said if their participation in economic development is to be enhanced, they must receive training in income generating activities and have easy access to low interest loans.
The government of Zimbabwe has made strides over the years to address gender discrimination and ensure full participation of women in all spheres of the economy.
