Several tourism marketing strategies have been adopted in the country as ways of boosting tourism traffic and currently stakeholders are mobilising resources to ensure that the sector benefits from the anticipated tourism inflows during the World Cup soccer showcase.

Addressing delegates who attended the launch of the Information Communication Technology strategic plan for 2010, Cde Mzembi said stakeholders should embrace e-tourism in marketing the country’s tourism products.

E-tourism has been adopted globally and by various countries in the region in keeping with technological advances and is regarded as crucial for increasing tourist arrivals in emerging markets.

Zimbabwe’s tourism sector was a significant contributor to the gross domestic product but due to sanctions it has performed below capacity in recent years, contributing 7 % to the country’s gross domestic product in 2007.

It is projected to recover strongly and contribute 15 % this year.
