People in Matabeleland North Province have implored government to go a step further in educating the younger generation on the significance of the country`s independence so that there is continuity in safe guarding the country`s sovereignty and pan African values.
As preparations for the 37th uhuru commemorations continue to gather momentum, the government is being urged to find mechanisms that can further the country`s agenda of protecting the values of the country`s independence.
While commending the efforts that have been made already, there are calls to take the mechanisms a step further to ensure that future generations have a sense of belonging and pride when they commemorate the day.
People who spoke to ZBC News in Lupane say independence celebrations also serve as a reminder to the nation about the sacrifices made by both the living and departed sons and daughters of the soil which led to political stability and freedom of the masses.
Independence celebrations are commemorated in all corners of the country on the 18th of April with Matabeleland provincial festivities set for Somhlolo Stadium in Lupane.
Meanwhile, preparations for the event in the province are at an advanced stage and all the sub-committees are working flat out to ensure that the event becomes a success.
