President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s repeated pronouncement that he will deliver a free, fair and credible election has been cited as an element that will set tone for international confidence on Zimbabwe’s economic turnaround.

The ZBC News interrogated on the meaning of the pronouncement and how it will assist in improving the image and perception of the country going forward.

It’s a statement that has been repeated at various fora and the fact that he continues to make it part of his main agenda highlights his commitment to lead the country into a new era.

Having said this stakeholders concur on the view that this is a positive statement being set by Zimbabwe to the international community and one that will enable the elections body to carry out its mandate effectively says Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s deputy chairperson Commissioner Emmanuel Magade.

Political Science lecturer Sharon Hofisi said the President’s message is a reflection of a culture of political transformation that resonates with the wishes and aspirations of the citizenry.

It is a message that has also been embraced by the main opposition party MDC T through its national spokesperson Obert Gutu.

Zimbabwe has in the past held elections which have however attracted mixed perception with the local and international community a development whose ripple effect has equally affected the socio, economic and political standing of the country.
