Hundreds of residents in Harare’s Dzivarasekwa (DZ) suburbs have received free eye treatment organised by the Lions Club Harare West.
The vice chairperson of the club Dr Boniface Macheka said according to the latest World Health Organisation statistics, 140 000 people in Zimbabwe are now blind due to various eye diseases and some of the blindness is irreversible.
Dr Macheka also warned people not to use un-prescribed eye ointments as they also damage eye sight.
National Assembly member of the area Cde Omega Hungwe said many people in her constituency had indicated eye challenges and consequently invited the Lions Club Harare West to assist them.
It was noted that the majority of the people who were going blind had conditions that were treatable.
