Harare giants – Dynamos -Â are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to overcome TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo when the two teams clash in their CAF Champions League group stage opening match at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Dynamos’ ability to withstand the heat in their quest to win Africa’s premier club competition will come under scrutiny when they come face to face with the reigning African champions on Sunday.
Dynamos assistant coach, Simon Chuma, says although they have a lot of respect for TP Mazembe, they are not intimidated and will fight to the bitter end when the 2 teams square-off in their opening match of the group stage.
“TP Mazembe are a big team and should not be taken lightly when we meet on Sunday. We respect them but don’t in any way fear them. We’re motivated and ready to do well against them,â€said Chuma.
Acknowledging the effects of the heavily built TP Mazembe players, Dembare fitness trainer, Thompson Matenda said the month-long break to pave way for the World Cup will not affect his players’ fitness levels to any worrying extent.
“The advantage of TP Mazembe is that they have players with big frame. That will work in their favour in terms of speed and power, and when it comes to fighting for high balls. Despite that, we’re putting plans in place to counter that advantage,†said Matenda.
After throwing another Congolese side, FC Lupopo by the wayside in the knockout stage, Dembare will be hoping for similar fortunes in Sunday’s showdown.
Dynamos’ clash with TP Mazembe will indeed be an acid test of their ability to hold their own against a major force on the CAF Champions league front.
Dynamos are however well aware of the threat posed by the African champions, who were ruthless in their home and away demolition of Monomotapa en route to being crowned African champions last year.
A victory for Dembare will indeed set the tone for further success in matches to follow against Esperance of Tunisia and Algerian champions, Entente Setif.
Meanwhile in a Premier match played at Rufaro Stadium this afternoon,Dynamos beat Eagles by two goals to nil.
DeMbare got their goals through prolific striker Evans Gwekwerere and winger Nicholas Alifandika to maintain a 100 % unbeaten record run.
