A Pfungwe family which was abandoned by its father, who eloped with another woman, suffered a double tragedy when their only one roomed house was reduced to rubbles by hailstorm which hit the area on Thursday.
It is however not the natural disaster that pains the family more but abandonment.
With only a few weeks to go before the commemoration of 16 days of activism against gender based violence, 41-year-old Simba Kapfura has subjected his wife and six children to various forms of abuse ranging from failure to provide food, shelter and an education for the children.
Kapfura’s four children have never been to a school.
“My husband left with another woman and we have been living in the open after our house was destroyed by the rains,” said Tsitsi Masangudza.
Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) District Administrator, Mr Douglas Hungwa and the family’s uncle, Chengetai Chitsungo said the father should be held accountable for his actions.
As things stand, the only interesting thing the father has done for his family is to give his children nice names.
The eldest aged 14 is named Daniel, Delight is 11, Devine is 9, Elma 5, Delma 3 and Milne is just 1 year 9 months.
