copac co-chairpersons.jpgWar veterans have called for the dissolution of the Constitution Select Committee (COPAC), saying the constitution making process has taken too long to complete.

The war veterans expressed disappointment at COPAC’s slow pace in coming up with the much-awaited constitution to the people of Zimbabwe.

Citing the fact that the country is still under the Lancaster House Constitution, the freedom fighters said the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe must dissolve parliament and call for immediate elections.

“We are not happy with this process, it has failed to deliver a new constitution and COPAC must be disbanded and President Mugabe should call for elections under the Lancaster House Constitution,” said Cde Elfas Chitera, who is the Harare Province War Veterans Chairman.

copac demos.jpgOther veterans including the Harare War Veterans Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Hillary Maphosa shared the same sentiments, saying all these delays clearly show that COPAC has failed to deliver the supreme law to the country.

He added that some members in constitution making body are buying time inorder to line their pockets with hefty allowances while trying to delay the holding of elections.

The majority of Zimbabwean people have expressed dissatisfaction with the way the constitution making exercise is being conducted, particularly the slow pace with which it is being run.
