The way communities can benefit from diamond resources as well as challenges in the sector will be under the spotlight at an indaba slated for Mutare, Manicaland Province this Friday.
“We want to bring players in the diamond security industry under one roof so that we discuss issues affecting the sector. This conference will also bring stakeholders involved in mining as well as communities where the gems are mined so that we operate in unison with them,” said Mr Sugar Chagonda, the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) Spokesperson.
On a positive note, the state owned diamond mining firm in the first quarter surpassed the 1 million carat mark.
Compared to the same period last year, this is an 80% increase, giving hope that the yearly target of 3 million carats will be achieved.
