Zimbabwe’s fashion industry has over the years been flooded by cheap imports but the country’s amazing designers are changing the fashion and designing industry by coming up with innovative styles that identify with the true Zimbabwean culture.

Many Zimbabweans have resorted to hoarding second hand clothing from overseas and across the borders due to the unfavourable economic conditions the country is currently facing.

It is against this background that one of the local fashion designers, Nyaraivamwe Muti, who is behind the popular Zimbabwean brand, African Pride that specialises in African print and lace has come up with creative designs which she says portrays the true Zimbabwean identity.

Having started fashion and designing in 2011, Muti said she has managed to add to her collection another brand that specialises in children’s wear.

The Zimbabwe’s fashion industry has many talented up and coming designers but the major challenges that have been cited include lack of international exposure and a platform to showcase their designs as well as financial support.
