Industry has urged government to consider pronouncing Chipinge a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) given its vast horticultural and ago-business opportunities which can contribute towards increased export earnings.
The domestic business community is convinced that Chipinge area has the potential to contribute immensely to the government goal of attracting increased investments and boosting annual exports in Manicaland province.
Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) immediate past president Mr Davison Norupiri said business would like to see government designating Chipinge and surrounding area a special economic zone given the vast potential.
Chipinge which normally receives high rainfall is well suited for agriculture with coffee, tea, macadamia nuts, avocados and timber among some of the major commodities grown in the area.
One such well-established estate in the district is Tanganda Tea Estates.
Under the SEZ, the government is offering special conditions and incentive to investors who are willing to participate in the export oriented industries.
