The December 12t Movement has taken heed of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call to move from politics and focus on economics saying it has lined up several investment opportunities in tourism and energy among others, which are ready for implementation under the ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ mantra.
Led by its chairperson Viola Plummer, the December 12t Movement international secretariat paid a courtesy call on Zanu PF senior management at the party headquarters today where the two parties agreed to upscale their long time political relations into the economics matrix.
“We are happy with the new dispensation and President Mnangagwa’s leadership. As you are aware we have enjoyed a cordial relationship with Zanu PF, but we are here to upgrade our political relations into economic, we have tourism and energy investments which we agreed to implement with Zanu PF. The tourism will mobilise tourists from all over the world to come and see that Zimbabwe is safe and send the message back to America that illegal sanctions must go,” Plummer said.
Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu said the visit by the December 12 Movement in solidarity with the Zimbabwe is open for business mantra sends a clear message to the world that President Mnangagwa’s engagement and re-engagement policy is bearing fruit.
“As you know the December 12 Movement is our all weather friend, this time around they came to appreciate the astute leadership of President Mnangagwa, to leave politics behind and talk economics, and they have good investment projects. This shows how the message by the President to focus on economics is taking shape, so we will facilitate the implementation of the investments,” he said.
Based in New York, the December 12 Movement, a black human rights organisation, has organised protests in solidarity with Zimbabwe at the United Nations Assembly meetings.
The organisation is also in the process of mobilising mass protests in New York against the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery (ZIDERA).
