road rehabilitation 2 23-11-10.jpgUnderfunding from the fiscus is affecting operation of the District Development Fund, DDF, a situation that has greatly compromised road maintenance services in Mashonaland Central Province.

In an interview with ZBC-News, Mashonaland Central Provincial DDF Coordinator, Mr Clement Mutombo said there is urgent need for all damaged roads in the province to be mended before the agricultural marketing season begin.

Mr Mutombo said 21 roads covering 2400 km are under DDF management in the province but due to budgetary constraints, they are currently maintaining nine feeder roads only that are seriously damaged.

He revealed that as a cost cutting measure, DDF is encouraging community participation in the road maintenance programme.
Speaking to ZBC News, Shamva District Ward 11 Councilor, Mr Douglas Gonoremvuu expressed his community‘s commitment towards the on-going DDF road maintenance programme in the area.

Some of the roads currently under DDF rehabilitation in Mashonaland Central include Nzvimbo-Bare Road in Mazowe, Maringazuva-Kanyai road in Muzarabani and Chisiwiti-Mutasa Road in Mt Darwin.
