The Government has donated US$200 000 towards the hosting of the Zimbabwe Exhibition which will run under the theme “Seeing Ourselves†in Venice, Italy.
The exhibition through Zimbabwean visual art works will tell the true story about Zimbabwe that has been distorted for years in the Western world.
Speaking at the hand over ceremony of the money to the Executive Director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, the Minister of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture, Senator David Coltart said the support of the arts by Government will be realised in this venture by both financial and material assistance to the Zimbabwean Exhibition.
One of the four visual artists taking part in the exhibition, Calvin Dondo said the event will give him and other artists the opportunity to tell the world what contemporary Zimbabwean art is all about. The story that these artworks narrate will change the perception about Zimbabwe.
National Gallery of Zimbabwe Executive Director, Mrs. Doreen Sibanda, said the exhibition is pivotal in establishing a platform for the artists to showcase their talent after many years of isolation.
The other artists who would be attending the exhibition are Tapfuma Gutsa, Berry Bickle and Misheck Masamvu.
88 nations will be participating at this international art showcase and Zimbabwe will be attending for the first time alongside the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa.
