The rebranded National Youth Games, which will be hosted by Matabeleland North Province have been provisionally scheduled for the third week of August.
As preparations gather momentum, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has provisionally set aside the period from the 19th to the 27th of August as the dates in which the games will be held.
SRC Coordinator for Matabeleland North Province, Mr Newman Masuku said the provisional dates will not disrupt the school calendar, the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays.
Mr Masuku added that the province is preparing its budget for the games.
“We have also been tasked to come up with a provincial budget which should be a task done by the Local Organising Committee in consultation with this committee that I have been referring to and this budget is needed as soon as possible so that resources can be availed to compliment our fundraising efforts and affiliation efforts,” said Mr Masuku.
Meanwhile, several meetings have been held with each of the seven districts in the province to establish their preparedness to host the games, and Tsholotsho has reported that it is facing challenges in hosting the games due to lack of sporting facilities.
Most of the sporting disciplines will be centred in Hwange which will also have the Provincial Command Centre for the games.
