The country’s dance groups have been urged to seriously take their talent and skills as a vehicle to embrace the country’s culture and tradition.
An association which will represent local dancing groups, the Dancers Association of Zimbabwe, has been launched in Harare.
Guest of Honour at the launch, Media, Information and Publicity Minister, Cde Webster Shamu said dancers should be proud of their profession and interweave their skills with cultural elements to uphold the country’s customs.
One of the directors of the dancers association, Mr Misheck Mangwende, said his association seeks to bring together various dance groups in the country to share ideas that will improve the welfare of artistes as well as change the negative perceptions on the behaviour of dance groups.
The launch of the association saw various groups sharing the stage, with Minister Shamu taking the opportunity to show off his dancing skills.
About 30 groups so far have registered with the association. Â
