The Northern Region Division One League will officially kick- off this weekend, despite worries the league would be thrown into chaos after the 25-years-age limit resolution threatened to throw into disarray plans for some teams.
ZIFA Northern Region Division One Chairman, Solomon Mugavazi confirmed the league will start this weekend, but Black Rhinos and Commando Bullets will not be part of the weekend show because of pending registration issues.
Confusion was looming over the commencement of the league after it emerged the two teams’ Rhinos and Commando had registered the bulk of their players who are aged above 25 years.
This was in contradiction of a resolution passed to have all teams register players below the age of 25.
Mugavazi said after the nullification of the resolution by the ZIFA board, they have opened up registration for other teams to include players above 25 years, but acknowledged the situation can create chaos within the league.
14 teams will be playing in the 2011 ZIFA Northern Region Division One League and the move to reverse the January resolution which aimed at positioning the second tier as a developmental phase shows a lack of vision and is an encouragement that defeats the nurturing of junior players.
