Police have expressed concern at the increase of cybercrime especially internet fraud in the country, a development which they however say is being contained.
This came out at an awards ceremony held at Morris Depot in Harare where outstanding detectives were honoured.
Police Commissioner Solomon Mubatapasango who was guest of honour at the CID Detective of the month Awards Ceremony at Morris Depot urged both the community and corporate world to work with law enforcement agents in curbing cyber crimes.
He said law enforcement agents are on top of the situation with a notorious syndicate that masqueraded as buyers of a mining company having been busted.
Speaking at the same occasion, Officer Commanding CID Senior Assistant Commissioner Simon Nyathi said there should be a close relationship between the corporate world and the police so as to deal with complicated crimes.
Cybercrime involves any unlawful act which involves the use of a computer or networks.
In Zimbabwe online fraud is the most common. The awards ceremony saw 69 detectives receiving certificates and prize money for excelling in their various fields.
