Culture Week commemorations kicked off on a high note in Bulawayo with Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Cde Judith Ncube urging communities to financially support artists.
Bulawayo which is known as the cultural hub of the country on Wednesday started commemorations of Culture Week with different artists such as Nobuntu and Thandanani musical groups putting on splendid performances.
Officially opening the commemorations, Cde Ncube said there is need for communities to start embracing arts as an industry with a potential to make significant contributions to the economic development of the country.
“We don’t recognise artists, arts are an industry which should generate income. Let’s support artist as people of Bulawayo,” said Cde Ncube
Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Solomon Mguni also stressed the need for Bulawayo communities to celebrate diverse culture.
This year’s commemorations are being held under the theme, “African Royalty, Our Heritage” and coincides with Bulawayo’s celebration of 125 years since it was granted city status.
