The President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa says processes to resuscitate the Cold Storage Company (CSC) in Masvingo are already underway and its rise will ignite economic value needed by Masvingo.

He said this after touring the company today.

At its peak, the company employed more than 2 000 people and its closure resulted in job losses whose greatest impact was felt by the Masvingo community.

President Mnangagwa who toured the company said there is no looking back when it comes to the resuscitation of the economy revealing work is already in progress for the revival of CSC.

“Next Tuesday the cabinet will look at the issue of the Cold Storage Commission. We are not looking back, we are looking forward,” he said.

Cde Mnangagwa also indicated that the command livestock programme will also ensure there is an increase in production of livestock which is a key component in the operations of CSC.

“I have been informed that Tongaat Huletts will be supplying 2 000 cattle per month. We also have the command livestock programme which will speak to the revival of the economy,” added the President.

Outside igniting the socio-economic development story of Masvingo, the resuscitation of CSC is hoped to also set the tone for Zimbabwe reclaiming its status as one of the biggest exporter of beef to the European markets.
