The Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing today took councillors, town clerks and rural district council CEOs from Mashonaland West Province through an induction process meant to familiarise them with the best practices in running local authorities.
The induction was held in Kadoma, with the local government head office command team led by Minister July Moyo in attendance.
The later stages of the induction were closed to the media soon after Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs, Cde Mary Mliswa had given her welcoming remarks.
The Minister reminded local authorities of the role they play in the country’s governance matrix and challenged them to put the interests of the people high on their priority lists.
She exhorted local authorities’ management to be exemplary to their officers through commitment to duty and called on councils to be sensitive to the cause of vulnerable members of the community such as those living with disabilities.
Mashonaland West Province has a total of 231 councillors.
