The MDC-T led Harare City Council has been blamed for causing inconveniences to commuters who endured walking long distances into the Central Business District following implementation of an ill-prepared programme to decongest the city.

The haphazard programme to decongest Harare’s CBD, the city fathers decision to bar commuter omnibuses from entering the city centre did not only cause chaos for residents but smacks of a political ploy to frustrate residents according to analysts.

Social commentator Mr Conwell Muzhanye said it was convenient for the MDC-T led council to generate unpopular sentiments towards government as elections are fast approaching.

For Harare Residents’ Trust director Mr Precious Shumba, the council clearly failed by not engaging residents and relevant stakeholders before the hurried implementation of its programme.

Council spokesperson Mr Micheal Chideme said some key lessons have been learnt and they shall be consulting more.

The hundreds of people marching to Harare CBD throughout the day including the elderly and the disabled mirrored council’s insensitivity towards rate paying residents at a time it asserts is creating a world class city by 2020.
