Preparations for the 2017-18 cotton farming season have begun with more farmers being called upon to register under the Presidential cotton free inputs being moved to various strategic distribution points countrywide.

Inputs for the 2017-18 presidential cotton free inputs scheme have been secured with the movement of fertilisers and seed to various collection points to all cotton growing areas in now progress.

Speaking during ‘meet the farmer tours’ in the cotton-belts of the country, Cottco Head of Operations, Maxmore Njanji revealed that this year’s scheme will target about 400 000 families with each expected to get inputs equivalent to a hectare.

The Presidential cotton free inputs scheme has attracted attention of many people who are indicating to grow the white gold this season.

Chipinge South legislator Cde Enock Porisingazi hailed President Robert Mugabe for reviving cotton production and called on more people to register early so that government can plan ahead.

The targeted 400 000 families can grow about 400 hectares which can produce between 350 000 and 400 000 tonnes if farmers and Agritex officers join hands to apply the best farming practices.
