cottonn.jpgMore than 360 000 families in the cotton green belts have received cotton inputs and planted on time as the production of the white gold continues to surge, thanks to the Presidential Free Cotton Inputs  programme which has increased to US$60 million, up from US$42 million last year.

Latest statistics by the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe show that all the farmers registered under the Presidential Free Cotton Inputs have received a full package of inputs on time.

ZBC News caught up with COTTCO managing director Mr Pious Manamike at the company’s headquarters where a huge consignment of chemicals was being dispatched for distribution to farmers countrywide.

They expressed satisfaction with the timely disbursement of cotton inputs.

To curb side-marketing this season, the parastatal has secured 294 motor bikes and 8000 bicycles to equip their monitoring teams deployed countrywide.

The positive trend in cotton comes at time President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced upon his return from Angola that Zimbabwe’s white gold has a ready market in Luanda.

Cotton is a source of livelihood to millions of people countywide as well as foreign currency generation for the country.
