As the 2018/2019 cotton season approaches, the farmers remain optimistic despite reports of a possible drought influenced by the El Nino as announced by the Meteorological Services Department.
The ZBC News visited a number of cotton fields where farmers were busy preparing their land and have already destroyed stalks to reduce pest populations as they patiently wait for the rains.
At various cotton buying points, some farmers were still receiving the free presidential cotton inputs, a programme they said has revived the cotton industry.
The government is working on reviving the cotton industry to its former glory including the textile industry and have been supporting cotton farmers through the giving them free inputs as well as agronomy support.
