The Cotton Company of Zimbabwe is targeting to employ 3000 people this marketing season for the purchase of 110 000 tonnes of cotton.
The cotton company is confident that this year will be a life-changing marketing season for farmers as they are set to recruit more than 3000 people to handle the buying of cotton as well as for ginneries.
The company will have 400 cotton buying points with 60 youths in Gokwe-Nembudziya having already been recruited and they were going through an induction process last weekend.
COTTCO managing director Mr Pious Manamike said all is set for the marketing season with requisite picking bags having been distributed, adding that six ginners will be operational this year.
Besides promises by the cotton company, private players are also on the market with reports that they are enticing farmers with cash despite failing to fund the season which calls for the intervention of the Agricultural Marketing Authority.
Cotton has been the lifeline of most communities with centres such as Gokwe having been built on the success of white gold and this season is expected to be the turning point.
